There are 109 inventoried roadless areas covering nearly 9.6 million acres that have been evaluated. This represents about 57% of the land area of the Tongass National Forest.

The supporting materials for the roadless areas consist of maps, photographs and written descriptions in a PDF format. In order to read these, you must have a copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader. You can obtain your free copy directly from Adobe.

If you would like to view the maps and read descriptions of the individual roadless areas, just click your mouse over the portion of the map (or the ranger district) containing the roadless area(s) of interest to you. This will produce a larger scale map that shows individual roadless areas. Note that most of the maps have an enlargeable roadless area map option, but also note that these are larger files and may take longer to load or may not be compatible with some home computer systems.
